DROP is a simple utility that scans the ACTIVITY.### files on Wildcat! 3.x
BBS systems, and creates a display file using Wildcat! 3.x color and system
codes. The display file is in the form of a report of carrier drop activity on
a daily basis.
The report displays the name of each user dropping carrier, the time, and
node number with total number of carrier drops at the time of the file's
creation.
This program supports up to 25 nodes, and can easily be run from a BATch
file. It starts with a @NOSTOP@, and cannot be stopped with the space bar. It
is most effective as a HELLO# screen. When users realize that dropping carrier
will result in their name being displayed as an offender for all to see, they
tend to be more carefull about signing off properly.
There are only two switches for this program: display filename, and number
of nodes. These switches are entered on the command line. To use DROP for the
HELLO2 screen on a single line system, simply type:
DROP C:\WC30\DISP\HELLO2/1
└┬─┘ └─────┬─────┘└─┬──┘└┬┘
│ │ │ │
Program name ────────┘ │ │ │
Path to display files ─────────┘ │ │
Display file name ──────────────────────┘ │
Number of nodes on system ───────────────────┘
To use DROP for the BULL5 screen on a multi line system using 5 nodes, type:
DROP C:\WC30\BULL\BULL5/5
DROP will create your display file giving it the .BBS extension. It gets
its information from the ACTIVITY log(s), and begins with ACTIVITY.001. DROP
reads all ACTIVITY.### files in numerical order.
The file "DROP.XCL" is included in this packet. This is the exclusion file
for DROP.EXE, and may contain up to 10 user's names to be excluded from the
display. We recommend that the BBS's SysOp(s), and perhaps the Co-SysOp(s)
names be included in this file, as DROP doesn't know an intentional drop
carrier from an unintentional one, and you can imagine your users response if
they should see YOUR name in the report. i.e.
"Yeah, it's ok for them, but not for me!"
DROP.XCL must be in the same directory/path as DROP.EXE. Please use the .XCL
file included with this packet, and edit it to suit your needs. Do not delete
any lines. If you wish to remove a name, remove it entirely, and replace it
with a "@". Please read the DROP.NEW file for information on updates to the
program.
DROP should be run from the POSTCALL.BAT or POSTCALL.RUN file to update
the display after each call.
